Junior Art Masterclass

This Junior Art Masterclass is designed for young artists ages 7–14 who are truly passionate about learning, creating, and growing their artistic skills. Unlike a typical arts-and-crafts summer camp, this is an immersive fine art experience focused on artistic development, creativity, and the art-making process itself. Class sizes are intentionally kept small so each student receives personalized one-on-one guidance and encouragement throughout the week. The goal is to help every artist discover and develop their own unique style while building confidence in their creative abilities. Students will explore techniques, strengthen foundational skills, and learn how to express their ideas through art in a supportive and inspiring environment. By the end of the week, each young artist will leave feeling accomplished, motivated, and excited about the work they created.

Meet Your Instructor

Su-Yen Smith is an elementary art teacher with 4 years of experience teaching young artists ages 4–11. Before becoming a teacher, she worked as a graphic designer while staying home with her children, where her passion for creativity and working with kids continued to grow. Later in life, she discovered her true calling: teaching young artists skills that nurture creativity and a lifelong appreciation for the visual arts. Su-Yen is passionate about creating engaging, encouraging, and high-quality art experiences that help students build confidence and express themselves creatively. She has been nominated twice for Teacher of the Year and was honored as the recipient of Midway ISD's Rising Star Award, presented to one staff member across the district. Through the Junior Art Masterclass, Su-Yen hopes to inspire young artists through hands-on learning, imagination, and a love for creating.
